The University of Panama received a donation from Cobre Panama, which consists of a greenhouse

Along with the installation of the cultivation house, Cobre Panama provided a warehouse for supplies, materials, and tools, an irrigation system, and cucumber seeds that will mark the beginning of educational activities in this greenhouse.

The University of Panama has been benefited by the donation of a 230m2 cultivation house from Cobre Panama.

This initiative aims to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural production, providing students with the opportunity to create a controlled microclimate for cultivating healthier fruits and vegetables.

The donation was made as part of Cobre Panama’s efforts to collaborate with neighboring communities to the mine and promote responsible agricultural practices. The cultivation house, also known as a tropicalized greenhouse, was handed over to the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the Regional University Center of Coclé, University of Panama.

Fulgencio Álvarez, director of the Coclé University Center, expressed his gratitude to the mining company for their contribution to strengthening the Forestry Engineering career. According to Álvarez, the donated cultivation house will allow students to become familiar with this technology that has become increasingly relevant worldwide for food production in limited spaces and in a more environmentally respectful manner.

Thanks to this donation, around 100 students from the Agricultural Sciences and Forestry Engineering careers will have the opportunity to learn about the benefits of enclosed spaces, which will enable them to create controlled microclimates by regulating temperature, environmental factors, and humidity. This will allow them to obtain out-of-season harvests, reduce water consumption through an automated irrigation system, and minimize the use of phytotoxic products, thus ensuring the production of healthier fruits and vegetables.

In this regard, Miguel Jaén, manager of Community Affairs at the mining company, encouraged students from the Regional Center to continue their studies and delve into these modern techniques.

“For the past 12 years, at Cobre Panama, we have committed to working throughout the educational cycle of people in our neighboring communities through various programs that support them from early childhood to university,” said the manager of Community Affairs. One of these programs is the Comprehensive Schools program, which includes sustainable production components to ensure food supply in 70 educational centers, as well as scholarships for higher education that motivate young people to pursue university studies.

This initiative also supports the development and continuous innovation of the Technical Outreach Program for Producers in Coclé, led by the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA).

In addition to the donation of the cultivation house, Cobre Panama provided a storage facility for supplies, materials, and tools, as well as an irrigation system and cucumber seeds that will be used to inaugurate the activities of this greenhouse.  COBRE PANAMA  MINERIA COBRE FIRST QUANTUM  COBRE PANAMA  MINERIA COBRE FIRST QUANTUM  COBRE PANAMA  MINERIA COBRE FIRST QUANTUM
