Arap y Cobre Panamá are Supporting Coclesano Aquaculture Farmers for Commercial Use
Arap y Cobre Panamá, a subsidiary of the Canadian mining company First Quantum, is lending its support to the local aquaculture farmers of Coclesano, Panama. The company is providing resources and assistance to members of the Coclesano fisheries organization, the Organización Coclesano de Acuicultura (OCA), to allow the farmers to increase their fish production and improve their economic status.
The OCA works to develop and promote sustainable fish farming practices among Coclesano’s members. Currently, the organization has more than 40 family farms, which have more than 25 years of experience in aquaculture and currently produce more than 800 tons of fish per year for commercial use.
Thanks to the support provided by Cobre Panamá, the OCA’s members will be able to significantly expand their fish production and harvest. The company is providing financial assistance and resources to the farmers, as well as management and technical training. Furthermore, Cobre Panamá is helping to improve the infrastructure of the farms, including providing materials necessary for the construction of additional ponds and tanks.
This initiative is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility program, which seeks to benefit the local communities of the areas where the Cobre Panamá operations are located. This program has already achieved successful results in the areas of education, health, and agriculture.
