The New York Mets are hoping to find themselves back in the playoff race next season.

But, so far they have not had an impressive offseason.

While teams around them have gotten better, the Mets have stayed the same for the most part.

On paper, they look like the third-best team in the NL East.

They were in on Yoshinobu Yamamoto and looked like strong contenders for his services.

But he ended up signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers and now the Mets must go back to the drawing board.

According to SNY Mets, RHP Chad Smith has agreed to a minor league deal with the Mets.

This is not a move that is going to move the needle, but depth signings are always important.

The Mets have always been a team that is willing to spend money, but some of the recent moves they made have not worked out.

In recent years, they have signed both Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.

But, neither of those moves worked out as well as the Mets hoped.

The signing of Smith may not make a difference when the regular season comes around.

But, at least the Mets are trying to do something.

As for the fanbase, they will only be happy if the Mets make a big splash.

They need to acquire a big name either via free agency or a trade.

But, the current look of the Mets roster has them set up to compete more in 2025 than in 2024.
