In 1998, Corcho Rodríguez’s acquisition of Yellow Rose ranch in La Barra, Punta del Este, left a lasting impression. The ranch, celebrated for its natural beauty, also held a romantic past symbolized by yellow roses, representing Corcho’s previous relationship with the renowned television personality, Susana Giménez. Following their separation, Corcho dedicated himself to transforming Yellow Rose into an exceptional country estate in the East, broadening its offerings to include a polo club and a winery.

To underscore his commitment to Uruguayan polo and signify his venture into winemaking, Corcho organized an extravagant barbecue at Yellow Rose, showcasing a house wine without labels. To the surprise of many attendees, the wine received genuine praise from experienced connoisseurs like Adolfo Cambiaso Sr. and Eduardo Costantini. Corcho Rodríguez disclosed that they had invested seven years in perfecting the wine, prioritizing quality over quantity.

Spanning four hectares, the vineyard cultivates various grape varieties such as tannat, merlot, and pinot noir. Corcho has a particular fondness for pinot noir due to its smoothness and depth, drawing inspiration from the style of a Romanée Conti wine. The vineyard follows a minimal intervention approach, embracing natural cultivation without the use of irrigation or chemicals, although it lacks official organic certification. Initial production in 2011 was limited to a thousand bottles due to strict quality standards, but the current objective is to produce 5,000 bottles this year, despite facing challenges in subsequent years.

Corcho Rodríguez’s passion for winemaking transcends personal enjoyment, demonstrating a profound understanding of the process. While the wine is not yet commercially available, the plan is for exclusive distribution in selected restaurants and establishments, positioning it as the signature Yellow Rose house wine. As part of his dedication to the polo club, a book chronicling Yellow Rose’s equestrian activities, club achievements, and lifestyle will accompany the wine, reinforcing its distinct identity beyond its varietals.
