On June 7, 2024, a ceremony took place in the province of Huíla, specifically in Lubango, to present the certificate for the de-mined area along the 400 KV electricity transmission line running from Huambo to Lubango.

This important occasion was attended by Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, as well as Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos, the Vice-Governors of Huíla and Huambo, the representative of the African Development Bank for Angola and São Tomé, various officials from both ministries, and invited guests.

Following the certificate presentation, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Ministry of Energy and Water that made this moment possible. He also commented on the event’s overall importance.

In response, Minister João Baptista Borges thanked Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade for his contributions, which ensured the success of the ceremony. He underscored the essential role of de-mining in supporting the project.

He went on to stress that the primary goal is to enhance energy capacity to satisfy the region’s needs. He praised the de-mining efforts for their significance to the energy sector and their vital contribution to the successful execution of various electrification initiatives throughout the country.

João Baptista Borges further noted that this project, which links Huambo and Lubango, will create job opportunities for many young people, an aspect he deems very important.

A symbolic act of delivering a vehicle to the de-mining team at the site was also carried out.

It’s worth mentioning that the construction of the 400 kV electricity transmission line between Huambo and Lubango will be carried out in two sections, spanning a total of 343 km.
