Sheinbaum promised to maintain her efforts in protecting workers’ salaries and benefits

Claudia Sheinbaum, the virtual presidential candidate from Morena, reaffirmed her dedication to safeguarding workers’ wages and benefits, asserting that the prosperity of workers directly translates to the prosperity of Mexico.

In light of this, Sheinbaum urged the nation’s workers to rally behind her as she embarks on her pre-campaign for the presidency, set to launch on November 20.

“More than just a party alliance, our progress depends on uniting with the people of Mexico. (…) We must stay the course; the way forward is the Fourth Transformation,” she declared.

The Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation also emphasized the rise in the minimum wage in Mexico, which has improved during President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s tenure.

The Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM) voiced its support for Sheinbaum, committing to establish 10,000 Committees for the Defense of Labor Transformation to bolster her candidacy.

Notably, CATEM, under the leadership of Senator Pedro Haces Barba, consists of over 1,194 union organizations across all 32 states.

During CATEM’s Ordinary National Congress at Arena Ciudad de México, Secretary General Pedro Haces Barba pledged to uphold the principles of the Fourth Transformation, highlighting that Mexico stands at a pivotal moment. He remarked, “Mexico is now written with an ‘M’ for woman,” in reference to his backing of Claudia Sheinbaum and her accomplishments.

“We are at a defining moment, and that’s why, from this Congress, alongside Doctor Claudia Sheinbaum, we reaffirm our commitment to the values of the Fourth Transformation,” he emphasized.

Pedro Haces Barba recalled that with the passage of the Labor Reform, previous conflicts between employers have been set aside, and a new form of unionism has emerged that champions workers’ rights while respecting their wages and benefits.

Additionally, the senator and CATEM leader expressed optimism that in the coming year, employers will recognize workers’ circumstances and provide a significant wage increase.

“I respectfully call on employers. We hope that this year you consider the current situation, Paco (Francisco Cervantes, president of the CCE), don’t turn a blind eye, and think about a fair wage increase for all Mexicans,” he stated.

He also underscored the labor advancements achieved during the current administration, including the establishment of union freedoms through elections for leaders, the abolishment of outsourcing, increased profit-sharing, and the hike in the minimum wage.
