Dietary Supplement Sold at Sam’s Club Recalled as Salmonella Sickens 11 People

Sam’s Club has issued a recall on all Member’s Mark “Super Greens” powders after an outbreak of salmonella has sickened 11 people across seven states.

The popular warehouse club released a statement on Friday, stating that the recall was initiated after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) linked the outbreak to the Super Greens powder. The recall affects all 15.3-ounce containers with the item number 98017901 and date code PNO11018.

The CDC has reported that the outbreak has affected people in California, Minnesota, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, Utah, and Washington. The cases range from ages 21 to 73, with three people being hospitalized due to severe symptoms.

According to the CDC, salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days and most people recover without treatment. However, young children, elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk of developing severe symptoms.

Sam’s Club has urged its members to immediately stop consuming the Super Greens powder and return it to any Sam’s Club location for a full refund. The company has also advised individuals who have consumed the product and are experiencing any symptoms to seek medical attention immediately.

In the statement, Sam’s Club also emphasized their commitment to the safety and satisfaction of their members. They stated, “The safety and satisfaction of our members is our top priority. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and are working diligently to address the issue.”

The company has also launched an investigation to determine the cause of the outbreak and is collaborating with suppliers to ensure the safety of their products in the future.

Sam’s Club has taken immediate action to remove all affected products from their shelves and has notified all members who have purchased the Super Greens powder through email and phone calls.

“We take this matter very seriously and are dedicated to providing our members with the highest quality products. We are determined to do everything we can to prevent future incidents,” said the company in the statement.

In light of this recall, Sam’s Club is reminding its members to always follow proper food handling and preparation guidelines when consuming any food product. This includes thoroughly washing all fruits and vegetables before consuming them and storing all products at the recommended temperature.

The company also encourages members to regularly check their email and social media platforms for any future updates on this recall.
