Former KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Senzo Mchunu, has revealed that he met with President Cyril Ramaphosa in January to inform him about the disbandment of the Provincial Task Team (PKTT). This announcement comes after months of speculation and controversy surrounding the disbandment of the PKTT.
Mchunu, who was appointed as the convener of the ANC’s National Working Committee (NWC) in KwaZulu-Natal, has been at the forefront of the decision to disband the PKTT. The team was established in 2015 by former President Jacob Zuma to oversee the ANC’s activities in the province after the party’s provincial executive committee (PEC) was dissolved.
In an exclusive interview, Mchunu revealed that he had a meeting with President Ramaphosa in January to discuss the disbandment of the PKTT. “I met with President Ramaphosa in January to inform him about the decision to disband the PKTT. He was very supportive of our decision and understood the need for change in the province,” Mchunu said.
The decision to disband the PKTT has been met with mixed reactions, with some members of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal expressing their disappointment and concern. However, Mchunu has assured that the decision was made in the best interest of the party and its members.
“We have to acknowledge that the PKTT has served its purpose and it is now time for the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal to move forward. We need to focus on rebuilding the party and ensuring that it remains strong and united,” Mchunu stated.
The disbandment of the PKTT has been seen as a major step towards restoring unity within the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal. The province has been plagued by infighting and divisions, which have had a negative impact on the party’s performance in recent elections.
Mchunu, who is also a member of the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC), has emphasized the importance of unity within the party. “We cannot afford to have divisions within the ANC. We need to work together towards a common goal of building a better South Africa for all,” he said.
The decision to disband the PKTT has also been welcomed by political analysts, who believe that it will bring about much-needed change within the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal. “The disbandment of the PKTT is a positive step towards restoring unity within the ANC in the province. It is a clear indication that the party is serious about addressing its internal issues,” political analyst, Thabani Khumalo, said.
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has also expressed its support for the decision to disband the PKTT. Provincial spokesperson, Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu, stated that the party is committed to working towards a united and strong ANC in the province.
In conclusion, the decision to disband the PKTT has been met with positive reactions and is seen as a step towards rebuilding the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal. Mchunu’s meeting with President Ramaphosa in January highlights the party’s commitment to addressing its internal issues and working towards a united front. With the disbandment of the PKTT, the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal can now focus on rebuilding and strengthening the party, which will ultimately benefit the people of the province.
