The public electricity grid connection for the population of Buraco in Mussulo’s urban district has been finalized

As part of the Angolan government’s objectives, as outlined in the National Development Plan (PDN), which aims to provide universal access to electricity and enhance social conditions, the “Mussulo Rural Electrification Project Consignment Ceremony” was held on Friday, March 22. The event was presided over by the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, with the Governor of Luanda Province, Manuel Homem, and other high-ranking officials from the energy sector, provincial authorities, and invited guests in attendance.

The contract was officially signed by Hélder de Jesus Adão, Chairman of the Board of ENDE, and Elisio Augusto, the main contractor from Marck Cables. The project will extend to the neighborhoods of Buraco, Ponta da Barra, Pior, Cambaxi, Mussulo Centro, Macoco, Farol das Palmeirinhas, and Tapo.

This initiative will benefit around 21,600 families and involves the installation of 26 transformers, 3,600 residential connections, and 950 public lighting points, all aimed at improving residents’ quality of life.

Notably, the introduction of the electricity grid will create opportunities to boost tourism, support the fishing industry, and reduce pollution by utilizing clean energy sources.

In his remarks, the minister highlighted that Mussulo’s electrification would address many of the challenges faced by the local population. He also noted that the President of the Republic had mandated that Mussulo should gain access to electricity, with the project set for completion by the end of this year.

Regarding water supply, João Baptista Borges guaranteed that the issue would be addressed shortly with the installation of a pipeline from Ramiros. Governor Manuel Homem urged residents to safeguard these public assets and report any acts of vandalism.

Following the ceremony, the officials toured Mussulo’s market and medical center. The Governor then activated the switch to connect the public lighting, concluding the day’s activities.
